Lighthouse 4Kids, Inc
Doing Our Part to Build Thriving Communities

About Ligthouse4Kids
The Lighthouse was first established as an independent 501(c) 3 non-profits corporation in 2006 by Derrick and Lisa Amos after the premature birth of their 4th son Devyn in 2005. In spite of the devastation of learning Devyn would need full time care for the rest of his life, Derrick and Lisa considered themselves blessed to have each other and 3 other healthy sons as a support system, but as they entered the world of the parenting a medically fragile child, it became apparent that not all families were so fortunate. In addition to the demands of caring for a medically fragile child also came the financial toll of long term, intensive medical care and other mounting expenses. While the initial spark for the Lighthouse was ignited by the birth of one medically fragile little boy, the mission has expanded to include providing support to other parents and families caring not only for medically fragile children, but foster and at-risk children as well.
Programs

Kids Eat Free
For 15 years, The Lighthouse has been relentless in our fight against childhood food insecurity. Our greatest desire is to end hunger for every child, but to do so, we need to start with feeding our kids. Through a mix of advocacy and program work, we focus on feeding kids after schools and over summer break. Our goal: To break down all barriers that would prevent a child from receiving daily nutrition.

Training & Community Resources
The Lighthouse provides a variety of training classes and community outreach events, including stress management, parenting, teen pregnancy prevention and mental health classes. We also connects families with community resources and other nonprofits, lessening families’ stress as they try to navigate complex systems.

Low Income Housing
Arguably one of the biggest problems that low income families face is finding decent affordable housing. The Lighthouse is partnering with community agencies to make affordable units available and can provide a list of agencies that are also advocates for homeless, nearly homeless and transitioning families. We will continue to make information available as it becomes available.

Crisis Care
The Lighthouse prevents child abuse and neglect by supporting families at times of crisis. We allow and encourage parents to bring their children ages newborn to five for emergency hourly or overnight care during difficult times, with the goal of keeping families together and reducing abuse, neglect and the number of children entering foster care.

Other Ways to help
Become a Feeding Site
Partnering with organized afterschool and summer youth programs helps us to meet the need of the community by providing free, nutritious meals to children living in low-income communities.
Volunteer
Several times a year The Lighthouse partners with other like-minded organization to feed the homeless, distribute backpacks, toys and hygiene packs to children in need. We could use your help to collect, prepare and distribute the items.
